CanDo is a collaborative online community that supports shared learning, co-design, and innovation to improve cancer care. When you join, you become part of a network of people who want to learn, share, and support each other.
This Code of Conduct is important for fostering a respectful and safe environment where meaningful interactions can occur. It is designed to protect all members of the community from harassment and to promote the CanDo community as a welcoming and inclusive space. These guidelines may be amended in the future to support these goals.
The following guidelines are not a legal document. They are intended to provide information on CanDo community expectations and our content moderation policies. This Code of Conduct may evolve as our community grows. If you have suggestions for improvement, we’d be keen to hear them, please contact us at cando@thisinstitute.cam.ac.uk.
As a member of CanDo, you are expected to:
- Treat all members with respect, dignity, and empathy regardless of their background, beliefs, or medical condition.
- Refrain from discriminatory, harassing, or offensive behaviour, including but not limited to discrimination based on race, gender, sex, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
- Respect and protect the privacy and confidentiality of fellow members. Do not share posts or personal information about others without their explicit consent. Do not share medical information.
- Maintain a professional demeanour in all interactions, recognising the unique roles and responsibilities of those who work in and use healthcare.
- Be transparent about credentials, affiliations, and any potential conflicts of interest when sharing information or participating in discussions.
- Engage in constructive and meaningful discussions, fostering an atmosphere of learning, support, and collaboration.
- Avoid inflammatory language, personal attacks, or disruptive behaviour that may detract from productive dialogue or harm individuals’ or the community’s well-being.
- Report any instances of illegal or unethical behaviour to the community moderators. This includes holding yourself and others accountable for upholding the code of conduct.
- Keep discussions relevant to cancer care and related topics. Avoid spam, self-promotion, or off-topic content.
- Refrain from using the platform to advertise products, services, or other commercial products
- Refrain from using the platform for any commercial purpose.
What is not permitted
There must be:
- No unfair, harassing, or offensive content targeting individuals or groups
- No personal attacks or deliberately upsetting language that derails chats
- No sharing of private or sensitive information
- No spam
- No attempts to disrupt the platform or access other members' accounts
- No deliberately spreading false information or refusing to correct wrong information when challenged
- No advertising
- No bots
- No discriminatory behaviours or language
- No use of the community for commercial purposes or to gain commercial advantage
Reporting violations
If something in the community appears to be in conflict with this Code of Conduct let us know by emailing us at cando@thisinstitute.cam.ac.uk or clicking ‘report’ on the drop down button next to each post.
The community administration team will take necessary measures to ensure our community is safe for all members. If behaviour is deemed inappropriate, we reserve the right to take action to delete any content, temporarily suspend an account, or remove members permanently.
